RIM launches TiVo for Blackberry

How long does it take to pump out an TiVo app for BlackBerry? One year, evidently, as RIM and TiVo have just announced the availability of TiVo for BlackBerry. Allowing BlackBerry users with a TiVo set-top box to view their program guide and remotely schedule the recording of their favorite shows, BlackBerry for TiVo sounds pretty great expect for one huge thing: you can’t watch what you’ve recorded. Yeah, yeah, it’s not a big deal to a lot of people, but the fact of the matter is that we’re living in something called the 21st Century, and in this day and age, your app damn well better learn to stream. We’re not saying that we’re abandoning all hope of streaming becoming a possibility in the future, but for now we guess we’re just going to have watch live TV through the Slingbox app. Joy. Hit the jump for BG’s thoughts on the app and some screenshots…

T-Mobile makes Motorola CLIQ preorder and pricing official, $199.99 with contract

The wait is finally over: T-Mobile has just announced the Motorola CLIQ pre-order details as well as pricing. So, exactly when can you get your hands on Motorola’s come-back device? Presale orders start for existing customers on October 19 and goes through to November 1. The device will be hitting stores and be made available online the day after presales end — November 2. Unfortunately, those “free” rumors turned out to be, well, rumors as T-Mobile and Motorola are expecting $199 with a new contract and a data plan that starts at $24.99 per month (don’t forget data plans for smartphones are mandatory for T-Mobile, as if you’d buy this phone without one). With a 5MP camera, a nice UI and support for up to 32GB of memory expansion, it’s definitely a nice handset. We’re just not sure the pricing is correct… What do you guys (and girls) think?

Verizon Wireless says No to texting and emailing while driving
Tomorrow the U.S. Department of Transportation Research and Innovative Technology Administration (RITA) will be holding a Distracted Driving Summit in Washington D.C. and Verizon Wireless will there in full force. According to a Press Release issued by the carrier this afternoon, Verizon is offering their full support and cooperation for state and federal legislation that bans texting and emailing while driving. Back in 2001 in Illinois, Verizon was the first carrier to support state-wide legislation requiring drivers to use hands-free devices while talking and now today they are behind the movement to enact the nation’s first state-wide texting ban. If you have been disappointed with Verizon’s smartphone offerings its looks like you have one more reason to hate Big Red.

Motorola & Motorola Sholes & Motorola Tao & Verizon & android & rumors & spy shots & verizon wireless 30 Sep 2009 06:07 pm
Spy Shots of the Android-powered Motorola Tao
Not ready to commit to T-mobile and the Motorola CLIQ, but still interested in Android and Motorola as your manufacturer of choice? If so the Motorola Tao (or Sholes) might be your ticket. The Tao became a confirmed Motorola device during the Motorola CLIQ event where the company said they would be releasing a second Android-based handset shortly. The future is now my friends thanks to Android 2.0, 854 x 480 pixel display, 3.5mm headphone jack and a 5-megapixel camera. According to the tipster who leaked the above spy shot on HowardForums, the Motorola Tao features a hardware QWERTY keyboard “like a HTC one”. The unfortunate news is that the Motorola Tao is headed for Verizon Wireless so Sprint and At&t customers might be left in the dark on this device launch.
