2009 & AT&T & Business Travel Awards & Press Release 11 Dec 2009 11:46 am

At&t named Best Mobile Phone Coverage in the World

At&t named Best Mobile Phone Coverage in the World

In a shocking move Business Traveler magazine selected At&t as having the “Best Mobile Phone Coverage In The World” for their 2009 Best in Business Travel Awards.  For the third year in a row At&t has claimed the top spot among US Wireless providers.  They key reasons that At&t has done so well in the award is that the majority of At&t devices are quadband GSM and triband HSDPA, allowing customers to make calls in 215 countries and use data in 185 countries.  In addition the carrier has also established partnerships with 130 major cruise ships to deliver voice and data coverage.  Now if only we could get more coverage here in the US then we’d really have something to celebrate, right?

Happy Thanksgiving from Cellfanatic

Happy Thanksgiving from Cellfanatic

From all of us at Cellfanatic we’d like to wish all of you a warm and happy Thanksgiving.  It’s times like these that we realize just how important friends and family are in our lives.  Getting a few days or even a few precious hours to spend with those closest to us helps us put our gadget addiction in perspective and we hope you feel the same.  So let’s put down the BlackBerry, the Droid, the iPhone, the Windows Phone or whichever device you hold closest to your heart and spend some quality time with the people that mean the most to us.

Don’t worry when you get back we’ll still be here dishing out the latest news, rumors and reviews in the mobile world.  Enjoy the holidays my friends and thank you for the continued support because without you the website would not be what it is today.  If you still can’t manage to step away from the computer or put down that trusty smartphone feel free to give us some feedback on the new site design.  Let us know what you like or dislike whether it be the color scheme, site layout, ads or anything else you feel is relevant and would help make Cellfanatic a more enjoyable experience.

2009 & Forecast & bluetooth 26 Oct 2009 10:23 am

Bluetooth Headset Shipments Drop 28 Percent in 2009

Bluetooth Headset Shipments Drop 28 Percent in 2009

Who would have thought that with all the new legislation for no talking or texting while driving would actually result in a decreased volume of Bluetooth headset shipments this year.  Well if Bonny Joy, Senior Analyst at Strategy Analytics, is to be believed then shipments will decline by 28 percent in the United State during 2009.  In 2008 shipments reached 19.2 million units, but this latest forecast shows that shipments for 2009 will only reach 13.9 million by year’s end.  The likely culprit in the downturn is the economy, but the real question is what are all these people who are not buying Bluetooth headsets using instead.  My guess is either speaker phone or the included corded headset, assuming your device manufacturer was nice enough to include one.

2009 & Gadget of the year & HTC Hero & Stuff Magazine & htc 04 Oct 2009 10:17 am

HTC Hero named Stuff Magazine Gadget of the Year 09

HTC Hero named Stuff Magazine Gadget of the Year 09

As we approach the U.S. launch of the Sprint HTC Hero Android fanboys have some well deserved celebrating.  Not only will they be enjoying Android 1.6, but they will be using the device Stuff Magazine called the Gadget of the Year for 2009, the HTC Hero. The combination of the spacious 3.2-inch screen, 5-megapixel camera and Android were more than enough to send the Stuff judges over the edge when choosing the recipient of the award.  To put it simply they said, “It’s a phone that’s right on the button”.

Fraser Macdonald, one of the judges at the 2009 Stuff Gadget Awards, said: ‘With the HTC Hero, we’ve finally got a phone that fully exploits the potential of the Android OS to be as clever and as sexy as the iPhone.’

Apple’s iPhone 3GS picked up awards for Phone of the Year and Readers’ Gadget of the Year at the ceremony organised by Stuff magazine last night at London’s Dorchester Hotel.  The award for Audio Gadget of the Year went to the Spotify website, which allows users to access any song they want legally and for free.  The Sony KDL-40WE5 television was crowned Eco Gadget of the Year for its energy-saving features, including a sensor which dims the screen when it senses you have left the room.
