Three Billion App Store Downloads and Counting

We’d be lying if we weren’t still anticipating Apples press release later this month while CES is in full force this week in Las Vegas.  Amid the launch of the Nexus One, the DTV-enabled Samsung Moment and five Android handsets coming to At&t, we almost forgot about the real App King in the smartphone world, the Apple iPhone.  In a Press Release issued by Apple this morning, the company confirmed that it had surpassed the three billion milestone for App Store downloads.  This record breaking acheivement took just 18 months and can be credited largely to the iPhone and iPod touch owners in 77 countries worldwide and the die-hard developers releasing software.  Android has a long way if it hopes on catching up to the Apple App Store, but if any mobile OS has a shot I’ll let my money ride on Google.
