iOS 4.1 Jailbreak Now Available as Limera1n

limera1n

Apple’s line up of iDevices has been quite popular over the years with many consumers flocking towards devices like the iPhone, iPod touch and more recently, the iPad. However, one thing that isn’t so loved about Apple’s iOS (which powers the above mentioned devices) is the fact that it’s so closed down. In fact, pretty much any level of customization is locked down due to Apple’s security restrictions.

Luckily, if you wnat to do away with these security restrictions you can just jailbreak your device. However, with each new iOS release comes a fix for previous jailbreaking efforts meaning all who are involved are back to the drawing board in search of a new method.

iOS 4.1 is no different as it broke the popular jailbreakme.com. Luckily, there have been many hackers working on a new jailbreak method and today, the infamous Geohot has released Limera1n. For the time being, Limera1n is Windows only and does not work for the iPhone 3G. However, Geohot says he is working on these problems and will release an updated version soon enough.

Head here for the download.

Geohot to release limera1n iphone jailbreak in the coming days

A post over at the Modmyi forums reads:
“big rumour right here
From different sources people know that Geohots new jailbreak will be called limera1n
limera1n (from geohot) will jailbreak iPad and untether all devices. most likely coming out on April 30, when the iPad 3G comes out.”

Indeed, a simple search on DomainTools.com reveals that limera1n.com has been secured by geohot. The hacker posted evidence of his latest achievement on the iPhone OS 3.2 front earlier this month – the iPad, fully jailbroken! A picture of Apple’s Wi-Fi tablet, the only available model so far, shows the Cydia and Blackra1n icons right next to Apple-approved apps like Pandora, Twitterific, and Skype (picture available above). Many believe he is now gearing up for the imminent release of his own “latest creation.” Should these rumors prove accurate, the code-savvy blogger may surprise the world by supporting more than one iPhone OS version, enabling both iPad and iPhone users to employ his hack.

Geohot’s Blackra1n jailbreak tool features an icon resembling a droplet of water colored dark grey. The limera1n logo is of the same shape and size, with a green-ish appearance. Should it materialize in the coming weeks, the rumored limera1n application is likely to sport an icon based on the green raindrop artwork.

iTunes 9.1 now available, kills sync for some jailbroken devices

Yesterday we got OS X 10.6.3 and today we have iTunes 9.1. The changes as stated in Software Update are some tweaks to Genius Mixes as well as the ability to sync and manage iPads. But the real news here is one major change that was not mentioned: jailbroken iPhones and iPod touches are now unable to sync with iTunes, or at least according to a bunch of feedback we’ve received (others report this is not the case). Bottom line: Unless you’re getting an iPad this Saturday, you might want to play it safe and not update to iTunes 9.1 until this is all cleared up. Update: While Blackra1n jailbreak is broken on Windows, it still works fine on Mac iH8Sn0w added a utility called blackbreeze to fix the Blackra1n issue with iTunes 9.1 windows

George Hotz unlocks iPhone and iPod 3.1.2 OS with blackra1n

George Hotz unlocks iPhone and iPod 3.1.2 OS with blackra1n

Want to unlock all devices running the 3.1.2 OS from Apple?  Well you are in luck because the iPhone unlocking wizard, GeoHotz, has released his 30 second fix known as blackra1n.  A word of caution for 3G and 3GS unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock because the baseband cannot be downgraded.

Once GeoHotz sees enough #blackra1n hashing on twitter he says he will release the software at 4am EST.  Luckily he’s already seen enough and you can download Blackra1n for Windows here.
