LG Pops One Million in Sales

LG Electronics announced today that the LG Pop (LG GD510) topped one million in worldwide sales just 100 days after its European and CIS launch in October 2009. Now available around the world, this fast-selling full touchscreen feature phone has become one of LG’s most popular models.

With a 3-inch WQVGA touchscreen framed by a super-slim 4.8 mm bezel, the LG Pop has been a big hit with customers looking for a compact phone that has all the features they need built right in. With access to social network sites on its home screen, the LG Pop allows users to update their status on sites such as Facebook, MySpace and Twitter on the go at any time. The LG Pop has won plaudits for its innovative use of green technology. With the optional solar battery cover, every 10 minutes the phone spends in the sun generates over two minutes of talk time or 180 minutes of standby time. Thanks to the phone’s Eco-tree and Eco-calculator applications, users can even calculate exactly how much CO2 has been cut by using the solar battery cover.

In addition to its cheerful name, the LG Pop debuted with a new user interface that included quirky icons and a bright color scheme. Changeable rear covers (available in most regions) added to the phone’s list of customizable features. Where offered, covers are available in fluorescent shades of pink, green and orange, peanut-patterned black and silver, an XO pattern and glossy white. Starting next month, two new phone colors, aqua blue and lime, will be added to the Pop’s
palette.

Rise and shine friends it’s about that time for your Morning Mobile Minute.  Over the next 60 seconds or so we’ll be running down the top stories from last night and early this morning.  To kick things off Bluetooth SIG claims that by 2011 Bluetooth 3.0+HS-enabled devices will account for 61% of certified Bluetooth products. By 2013, the number of handsets using Bluetooth 3.0+HS technology will top 300 million units, followed by PC systems at 60-70 million units, personal media players at 30-35 million units, external dongles at 10-15 million units and DSCs at 1-2 million units, the sources quoted data from IMS Research as indicating.

Next we saw the first in-depth review of the HTC HD2 be released.  The review is broken into two parts (google translated: part1, part2) and goes through all aspects of the device.  Even those slightly interested with the HD2 should find the camera and video quality samples worth a peak.

Nokia Siemens is back in the news after quite a lengthy absence.  In a press release they announced that they had won a contract from India’s Unitech Wireless to supply GSM network for the company’s operation in six circles that include Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. Nokia Siemens Networks will also be responsible for network operation and maintenance as a part of the Managed Services contract with the mobile operator.

A new survey from TNS Technology has found that 25% of Brits who were questioned expressed interest in the Palm Pre.  What makes the results so interesting is that the survey found that amongst the general populace, 26% of users questioned would definitely or probably buy the Palm Pre – almost double the 16% who said they would buy the iPhone when TNS undertook similar research in 2007.  With the Palm Pre being offered for free on a 24-month contract and the iPhone being £269 at launch, many iPhone owners are approaching the end of their 18-month and might consider the Pre their next upgrade.

Orange announced a new MVNO partner platform with Transatel deal.  The deal can bring new MVNO brands on to the Orange network in just 6 weeks and Transatel will target the SME market through telecom resellers and community-based brands looking to introduce mobile propositions.

LG reinforced their Green Initiative by launching the compact full touchscreen, LG GD510, LG Pop.  The LG GD510 can be recharged utilizing the power of the sun and the phone reflects the company’s aggressive green initiative and its commitment to creating a healthier environment for everyone. LG strictly adheres to the European Union’s RoHS requirements, and went even further with the LG GD510, ensuring that it does not contain any polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and is made free of BFR (brominated flame retardants) and CFR (chlorinated flame retardants) almost up to 99.9 percent.

And last this morning was the release of the Motorola i856 Debut on Sprint Nextel which “combines Nextel Direct Connect, best-in-class push-to-talk services, with a stylish multimedia device for both business and consumer applications”.  The Debut’s compact slider form factor offers smooth gliding and easy one-handed operation.  The device is just $99.99 with a two-year service agreement and $50 mail-in rebate.

LG announces the compact and affordable Pop (GD510)

The touchscreen spot light might hover around Apple these days but back in January of 2007, the LG Prada was the first full touchscreen phone on the market.  Following in the success of the Prada, LG has announced the most compact and affordable 3-inch touchscreen phone ever made, the LG Pop (LG GD510).  The LG Pop has been designed to fill the gap between the high-end LG Chocolate BL-40 and the LG Cookie (KP500) to give consumers a simple yet feature-rich device.

Features worth noting on the LG Pop are the 8GB of internal memory, 3-inch WQVGA touchscreen display with 4.8 mm beezle and a 3-megapixel camera.  The LG GD510 Pop will be released in mid-October in Europe and then followed with releases in other markets.  No price point or carrier has been announced yet, but we are sure more information will be announced this week.  In the meantime enjoy the video below and get ready to ‘pop’.
