FCC approvals: Pantech LTE Modem, Nokia C6-01, HTC PG06100, Huawei U8150-B

There’s nothing like a quick peruse through the FCC approval database on a Monday morning. Kicking the week off we have a few device approvals worth mentioning — Pantech LTE Modem (UML290), Nokia C6-01, HTC PG06100, Huawei U8150-B. Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way here’s what we know about each device.

The Pantech LTE Modem (UML290) uses LTE Band 13 728 MHz so it could be part of the Verizon Wireless early 2011 LTE push. We know that no LTE-enabled phones will be shipped or announced in 2010, but that doesn’t rule out a USB stick.

The Nokia C6-01 had previously received FCC approval, but this time they made some changes to the WLAN module. According to the paperwork, the WLAN module “is changed to a derivative fine tuned drop-in replacement product from same vendor”.

The HTC PG06100 smartphone features CDMA2000 support for 824.70-848.31 MHz / 869.70 – 893.31 / 1851.25 – 1908.75 MHz / 1931.25 – 1988.75 MHz (BC0 and BC1). At this point all we have to go on is the FCC ID: NM8PG06100 and the model number PG06100.

Last up is the Huawei U8150-B. This quadband GSM device will likely pack US 3G radios since the original only included HSDPA 900/2100 MHz. The front of the device offers a 2.8-inch capacitive touchscreen and the phone ships with Android 2.2 Froyo. A likely release partner would be either T-mobile or At&t, but maybe Huawei wants to expand to CDMA carriers. For now we don’t have the results of the frequency tests so it’s all speculation.

Nokia C6-01 Hands-On Photo Gallery

The Nokia C6-01, which recently appeared on the FCC website with T-mobile USA AWS bands, has now received a formal photo session.  In this photo gallery from our friends at CNMO, we get an up-close look at the Symbian^3 OS and the 8-megapixel camera which should make the C6-01 a hit in the US when it launches later this year.  A FCC approval might not guarantee the T-mobile launch, but it never hurts to hope and certainly shouldn’t stop us from getting up close and personal with a photo gallery.

Here’s your Nokia C6-01 refresher. The Nokia C6-01 packs virtually the same feature set as the more expensive C7. You get an 8 megapixel camera (regrettably fixed-focus), capable of recording HD video, 680 MHz CPU with dedicated graphics accelerator and 256 MB of RAM. The C6-01 also features a 3.2” AMOLED display with ClearBlack screen technology.

ClearBlack display versus traditional AMOLED Photos

By now you’ve seen or at least heard that the Nokia’s E7 and C6-01 both use ClearBlack display technology.  To help get a better understanding of ClearBlack technology, Nokia Conversations has put together a formal write up and supporting pictures to help explain.  Here’s your Cliff’s Notes version of their guide:

ClearBlack is similar to the effect produced by wearing a pair of polarized sunglasses, it reduces the reflection when using a phone in direct sunlight.  It also improves the vividness of the colors because of the higher contrast and even improves the viewing-angle of the screen.  The end result is that the colors are more accurate, the blacks are black and the phone is viewable in nearly every environment.  The photo above shows a Nokia C6-01 with ClearBlack display on the left and an early prototype of the same device without it- the results speak for themselves.

Nokia C6-01 with Symbian as the OS?

Nokia-C6-01The Nokia C6-01 made its first appearance in July with the news related to its availability in Netherlands, but more recently a retailer from Bulgaria got some photos of the device and noticed that the operative system is the Symbian^3 instead of Symbian^1 that was included in the “old” Nokia model.

In terms of technical specifications there are some changes as well with the main one being the camera – instead of 5-megapixel it has a better 8-megapixel camera that comes with dual LED flash.

Taking in consideration that this isn’t official news we’ll have to wait until the the 15th of September which is the release date to confirm the rumors about the Nokia C6-01.
