Best Buy puts the Samsung Gem on their buyer’s guide

samsung-gem-best-buyBest Buy has been doing a lot tricks with the Fascinate, the Best Buy App, and prepping for definite holiday sales for tablets.

They are also planning to put the Gem, Verizon’s low-end Android phone on their buyer’s guide. It will have Android 2.1 and have TouchWiz 3.0 and Swype. It also has 16GB of microSD expansion, and a 3.2 Megapixel cam.

There isn’t really anything on the price, but my Source suggests something around $79.99.

Samsung exec already has next Tablet planned

samsung-galaxytab-09-02-2010Now that the Galaxy Tab was on prominent display at IFA, it is going to be quite a cool thing.

Apparently, a Samsung head of product planning named WP Hong is already making the next model. This new one is apparently being called the Honeycomb, but that could refer to the operating system which it uses.

After all, Android 2.2 is known as Froyo, and Android 3.0 is Gingerbread. By the way, the Tab is going to get an update to Gingerbread.

I’m sure we’ll be seeing more on this later.

It has shown up at an IFA Press Conference, and it’s the Android 2.2 tablet that could give the iPad a run for its money.

Don’t forget the 7-inch screen with the 1024 x 600 display, a front-facing video camera, Flash 10.1, HTML 5, and doubles as an e-reader.

Samsung Announcing New Galaxy S Smartphone On September 16th?

galaxysinvitation

Samsung’s first attempt at an Android powered device has been immesnely successful with the Galaxy S. Not only does it feautre highly sought after specs like an AMOLED display and a 1GHz processor, but it has made its way to virtually every carrier in the United States. AT&T has the Samsung Captivate, T-Mobile the Samsung Vibrant, Sprint the Samsung Epic 4G and Verizon the Samsung Fascinate.

While all of these devices feature a similar form factor, the Epic 4G is the only device that features 4G connectivity and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard.

However, it looks like Samsung has something else up their sleeve as they have just sent out invitations to an event in New York on September 16th. At this event, Samsung will be launching a new Android-powered smartphone that many believe will be a new model in the Galaxy S series.

Additionally, Samsung will also announce ‘Media Hub’ on the same day which is an online video store specifically targeting the company’s smartphone line up.

Samsung planning something big on September 16

samsung_event_9.16_Sure, Apple was all ablaze with Steve announcing the new Nanos, Shuffles, and iPod Touches (oh my!)

It would appear that Samsung has some sort of similar shindig going down, and they plan to unveil their new Media Hub. This is the one that will allow “Galaxy S users to rent and purchase TV shows and movies for a small fee”.

Apparently, there is some new Android device that Samsung will announce, and it could be the Galaxy Tab or even the Fascinate.

Well, we shall see on September 16.

Samsung’s new PMP, the YP-Q3 and YP-U6

samsung-q3-2010-09-01-600It seems like everyone is improving on their PMP technology these days, Apple has that iPod nano, iPod Shuffle, iPod Touch, and Philips has that GoGear Connect.

Samsung has announced two new PMPs. The first is the YP-Q3, which can support many formats, including H.264, WMV, Xvid, MP3, OGG as well as an FM receiver and voice recorder. The other is the YP-U6 MP3, which is more of a stick that apparently has an accelerometer of some type.

There is no word on when this will be out, but you should probably expect to hear more of it sometime during IFA.

Samsung Blue Earth Cell Phone Review–Good For The Planet

samsung-blue-earthThe one thing that I absolutely love about Samsung phones is that they have great names. Caliber, Freeform, and so on…you won’t see too many Samsungs that have bland names like the XP-130. So today, we’re going to take a look at another smartly-named Samsung phone, the Samsung Blue Earth.

The Samsung Blue Earth is a candy bar style cell phone that offers Bluetooth connectivity, a two thousand contact phone book, text messaging, multimedia messaging, stopwatch, world clock, calculator, calendar, alarm clock, mobile email, mobile web, Wi-Fi connectivity, a Google app that lets you use Gmail and Google Maps, a voice recorder, music player, a 3.2 megapixel camera, and a Blue Earth pedometer that lets you not only track your step count, but also convert it to carbon dioxide emissions and trees saved by walking.  Though in all honesty, it’s hard to draw a causal link between driving a car and killing trees unless you hit a lot of them while driving.

The Samsung Blue Earth, in a bid to be environmentally friendly, also comes with another feature–a solar panel array to recharge the phone on the back. The battery has been tested at about eight hours of talk time on a single charge, and the solar panels appear to be able to kick in about four hours’ worth of talk time when the battery is nearly discharged.

Obviously, I didn’t get a chance to run tests on the solar panels, but one thing I can say is that the phone offers plenty of worthwhile features, though the phone suffers from some pretty cramped conditions when you’re trying to use them.  It’s a mixed bag phone, and it’s the ecological awareness of it that really gives it its extra edge.

The Samsung Blue Earth isn’t a bad phone, it’s just a much better phone at saving the world than it is at being a phone.

The Good

Terrific battery life

Plenty of features

The Bad

Solar panels of dubious effectiveness

Cramped controls

Score 7 / 10
