Rogers Canada to offer Dell Streak for $599.99 No Contract

Rogers Canada to offer Dell Streak for $599.99 No Contract

The Dell Streak is soon to be released by Canadian wireless carrier Rogers, but up until today we had not confirmed a price point.  This all changed after a tipster leaked a purported screen shot from the internal Rogers product library, showing the Dell Streak with a retail price of $599.99.  Also included in the screenshot is a 2-year price of $399.99 or 3-year for $149.99.dell-streak-price-revealed

The Dell Streak features a 5-inch touchscreen running at WVGA (800 x 480 pixels), a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 8250 processor, 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and dual LED flash and VGA front-facing camera.  The biggest hurdle for the Dell Streak has and will always be the Android 1.6 OS the device ships with.  According to Dell, the Streak will be updated to Android 2.1 “later this year”, but with all the talk of Honeycomb and Gingerbread coming to the Samsung Galaxy Tab, what’s an Android fan to do?

Vivaz Pro now available from Rogers

Vivaz Pro now available from Rogers

The latest Quick Messaging Device (QMD) from Rogers Canada, the Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro, is now available.  With 720P HD video recording, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and touch-sceen navigation, the Vivaz Pro earns the QMD title.  So what exactly is QMD?

According to Rogers, QMD is an “in-between” line of cellphones.  Most have a full QWERTY keyboard for fast, easy messaging, some have touch screens and offer data services such as messaging, email and web access.  The QMD line up began back in early 2009 with the launch of the LG Neon, alongside the Samsung Gravity and Samsung Propel.  So why is QMD important?

Simple.  QMD devices offer the functionality of a smartphone, but they do not require a data plan.  Even if you decide not to opt for a data plan you can still take advantage of a Rogers Mobile Internet Pass for short-term, occasional mobile web browsing.

Here’s a quick recap of the important specs for the Sony Vivaz Pro: 3.2-inch touchscreen in 16:9 aspect ratio running at 640 x 360 pixels, 720P HD video recording, 5.1-megapixel camera with auto focus, face and smile detection, and 802.11 b/g connectivity.

Is the Flipout being killed?

Motorola-FlipoutI’m sure that you can’t forget the square Motorola Flipout. It looks like it was going to be carried by Rogers and AT&T.

I say may be carried because my Source says that AT&T stores, who were expecting it this weekend, suddenly had a standing order to destroy any and all literature about the Flipout.

What does this mean? Is there going to be some last minute feature that changes everything about this device. That, or the Flip out is flipping out of here.

I’m sure we’ll be hearing more about this before its supposed release. We’ll keep you updated until then.

Samsung Galaxy Tab Coming to Rogers in Canada

We just got done telling you that the Samsung Galaxy Tab would be coming to T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon and Sprint here int he US but what about our brethren to the north? Well, it was just made known that Rogers will do the honors of carrying the Android 2.2 touting Samsung Galaxy Tab in Canada. Unfortunately, just like its US counterpart we still do not know when Rogers will actually be picking up the Galaxy Tab or at what price.

Thanks to the plethora of carriers that the Galaxy Tab will be available for, Samsung may really have a shot at knocking the iPad from its thrown when this holiday season rolls around.
