Apple’s iPhone is without a doubt one of the most popular smartphones currently on the market. As of now, there are 4 different iterations of the device starting with the iPhone and ending on the iPhone 4. While the different devices have their respective pros and cons, there is one gripe that has been one ongoing issue giving users headaches. And that is the fact that Apple has yet to offer the devices unlocked.

Luckily, this problem is a thing of the past as Apple has updated their website today adding in both 16GB and 32GB iPhone 4s (in white and black) for sale completely unlocked. In terms of pricing, the 16GB model will run you $649 while the 32GB model fetches $749. Check out the listing here.

If you’re sick and tired of waiting for T-Mobile to release the Samsung Galaxy S i9000 your prayers have been answered, if you’re willing to drop a large chunk of change, that is. Amazon.com has recently put Samsung’s latest and greatest handset up for sale, completely unlocked for $899.99.

This phone features a 4-inch Super AMOLED display, Android 2.1, a 1GHz Samsung processor, 512MB of RAM, a 5 megapixel camera with 720p HD video recording, 3G/HSUPA/WiFi/Bluetooth/A-GPS.

While it’s nice to have a phone before everyone else, it’s likely (read: definitely going to happen) that T-Mobile will offer the Galaxy S for signiifanctly lower than $899.99–with a 2 year contract, of course.

While iPhone owners in the United States, even while paying full price, are stuck with a device locked to AT&T, it seems that Apple is giving Canadians a bit of a break. According to their online store, both the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS will be sold unlocked, commitment free.

This obviously gives Canadian iPhone users the ability to sign up for any plan they want on any carrier they want.

Of course, they’re going to be stuck paying the full $549 for an 8GB iPhone 3GS (which is now available for pre-order) but for some that’s a small price to pay for carrier freedom.

The GSM Palm Pre might be an O2 exclusive in the UK but that doesn’t have to stop your hopes of owning a GSM Palm Pre.  Online mobile mega retailer eXpansys has started offering the unlocked GSM Palm Pre on their European website for £499.99.  Unfortunately this will not take care of your US 3G bands, but it would get you in the door with EDGE data speeds in the states.  Although this might be completely unacceptable to many, those itching for a Palm Pre fixing should jump at the offer.

Not looking to lock yourself into a contract and want access to the BlackBerry Curve 8520 and Storm for a reasonable price in India.  Well good because RIM has announced that the unlocked BlackBerry Storm and BlackBerry Curve 8520 smartphones will be available through Redington’s retail distribution network across India for Rs 20,500 and Rs 14,990 respectively.  Frenny Bawa, Vice President, India, Research In Motion had this to say about the news, “These two competitively priced, network independent smartphones at Redington retail outlets across the country are supported by a wide range of pre-paid and post-paid options via our carrier partners, and make wonderful gifts during this festive season.”
