Mobile Phone News – HTC Supersonic, NFL and Verizon, webOS

It’s that time for another daily dose of your Morning Mobile Minute where we bring you the most important stories in mobile phone news every Monday through Friday. Without further adieu let’s get into your mobile phone news for Tuesday March 9, 2010. The NFL and Verizon Wireless have announced a 5 year agreement for NFL Mobile set to kick off next month with coverage of the 2010 NFL Draft being held from April 22 to April 24th. Verizon Wireless becomes the NFL’s official wireless service sponsor. The big news is that the NFL RedZone channel and the NFL Network channel will be available for streaming along with NBC’s Sunday Night Football and the NFL Network’s Thursday Night Football.

At GDC – the game developers conference Palm announced the webOS Plugin-Development Kit (PDK) available to download at the Palm Developer Center (developer.palm.com). The PDK complement the Palm webOS SDK (Software Development Kit), allowing developers to use C and C++ alongside web technologies that power the SDK and mix them seamlessly within a single app. At CES Palm introduced 12 games built by four leading developers with early access to the PDK. Hopefully the release of the public beta version of the PDK results in more games.

A video of the upcoming HTC Supersonic – the wiMax 1GHz full touchscreen smartphone coming to sprint – has been released on YouTube. The video is a bit of a teaser, no tripod of course and the mystery camera man is wearing gloves.

The Samsung Galaxy Spica is now available on Rogers Canada. The Spica packs a 3.2 inch amoled hvga capactive touchscreen, 3.2-megapixel camera, GPS WiFi and 800MHz processor. It will be upgradable to Android 2.1, but were not sure which version will come shipped (Android 1.6 would be the likely guess). In other Samsung news, the Samsung SHW-M120S could be the Bluetooth 3.0 Android certified handset. Since the device packs a T-DMB tuner a launch in South Korea is expected. The device features a 3.3-inch WVGA AMOLED display, 5-megapixel camera with autofocus plus a front-facing VGA secondary, WiFi, GPS, and HSDPA.

The Mysterious LG Windows Phone 7 Series device spotted on Engadget has been given a code name – the LG Panther. The Panther features a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard, 5-megapixel camera and large touchscreen. It runs a 1GHz snapdragon processor and has the usual GPS and WiFi.

Invites are being sent out by T-mobile for a HTC HD2 event where you can experience a “larger than life entertainment powerhouse” on March 16th in New York City. With no upgrade path to Windows Phone 7 later this year the HD2 might be a hard sale, but if you are so inclined the device will go on sale on March 23 or 24th in retail stores.

Apple has release the iPhone SDK Beta 4. What makes this beta significant is that it includes support for the 1024 x 768 screen resolution of the Ipad (set to release April 3rd). It is unclear what, if any major changes were made in the updated SDK, but we’ll keep you posted.

Last in this morning is news for Sprint Touch Pro 2 owners. The day is finally approaching for the highly coveted Windows Mobile 6.5 update. According to PPCGeek member platin465, the Sprint Touch Pro2 will get the windows mobile 6.5 update later this month. I guess later is better than never.
